Virginia Maitland moved to Colorado in 1970 after graduation from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She came inspired by the tradition of twentieth-century abstract painting, but when she arrived in Colorado, she soon fell in love with the natural beauty, the sweeping sky, the stunning light. She has progressively merged these two visions in her paintings by layering transparent sheets of color, creating veils that float above and through the spaces of the canvas. She has exhibited in New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Santa Fe and Dallas. Her work is in many public and private collections, including the Kirkland Museum and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. http://www.virginiamaitland.com
