Joyce Koskenmaki‘s imagery reflects her surroundings in the north woods of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where she was raised. She had always wanted to return, so after a lifetime lived elsewhere she went back to teach at Finlandia University and then to retire. Her work has been shown nationally and internationally, despite her remote location. She now works full time in her studio, in an old elementary school three blocks from her house. In her work, she tries to reach beyond the surface of things, to that which holds us all together. joycekoskenmaki.com
